Seminars

Seminars at DIFFER cover a wide range of topics and are held on Thursdays at 11.15 AM in the seminar room of the institute (unless otherwise stated). Seminars are open to everybody. If you are interested in visiting a DIFFER seminar or want to subscribe to our mailing list, please follow the instructions for external visitors.

Seminar, to
DIFFER event
The demonstration of nuclear fusion in the laboratory and eventual utilization as an unlimited energy source has been a grand challenge for physicists and engineers for 70 years. The realization as an industrial energy source would have a tremendous impact on our society and would change our approach to energy policy and climate change.
Seminar, to
Black hole
Astrophysical black holes are surrounded by accretion disks, jets, and coronae consisting of magnetized relativistic plasma. They produce observable high-energy radiation from nearby the event horizon and it is currently unclear how this emission is exactly produced.
Seminar, to
Volker Presser
We synthesize, characterize, and apply functional nanomaterials. We use electrochemistry to enable, among others, energy storage (supercapacitors, redox electrolytes, batteries), water treatment (desalination, pollutant removal), and tailored ion recovery (esp. Lithium recovery).
Seminar, to
DIFFER event
Fusion is the only primary energy source which is currently not exploited by mankind. Its realization as an electricity source promises resources for very long time scales, a safe operation without CO2 emissions and limited waste with no long-term repository needs.
Seminar, to
DIFFER event
Many children around the world grow up bi/multilingual, acquiring two or more languages from early in life. The specifics of multilingual language environments vary enormously from child to child, and it is important to understand how this variation affects children’s acquisition of their languages.
